World Renowned Oncology Surgeon Recruited to Ohio State
Dr. Raphael Pollock, MD, PhD, to lead Ohio State's Division of Surgical Oncology
Columbus,Ohio - Raphael E. Pollock, MD, PhD, known and respected worldwide as a gifted cancer surgeon and researcher and passionate educator of physicians-in-training, will become a professor and the director of the division of surgical oncology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center College of Medicine's department of surgery. Pollock will also serve as the chief of surgical services of The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center- Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCC-James). Pollock's appointment is effective September 1, pending Ohio State's Board of Trustees approval. He comes to Ohio State after 31 years at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he held several leadership roles, the most recent being head of the division of surgery.

On October 11, 2014 Polo in the Pines guests stomped the divots, dined on Ocean Catering Company’s tasty selections, and danced the night away- all while supporting CURE’s mission to cure childhood cancer within our lifetime. This great event specifically supports sarcoma cancer research, sarcoma awareness and family support for those affected by this rare form of cancer. The 1st annual Polo in the Pines presented by Fowler Connection, King & Spalding, and Peachtree Tents and Events on October 6 was a tremendous success with over $100,000 being donated to key research at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Care Center for Leiomyosarcoma cancer.

Polo in the Pines Inspires the Community to Fundraise for Pediatric Brain Tumor Research at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
When sisters Saville and Lilia Sullivan were each diagnosed with different types of brain cancer within three weeks of one another, founders of the Atlanta-based Polo in the Pines organization felt called to help. Polo in the Pines exists to fund specific cancer research and provide family support through an annual charity partner and beneficiary. Saville, 20, and Lilia,17, have spent the last year courageously facing surgeries and treatments side-by-side at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Emotionally and dutifully called, Polo in the Pines selected the Sullivan sisters to be their 2017 honorees with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta as the beneficiary to raise funds for pediatric brain tumor research.
Sometimes a single conversation can change your life’s purpose. That was certainly the case for Polo in the Pines founder Tina Fowler. In 2012, Tina was at Houston’s MD Anderson Cancer Center with her mother, Sharon Knight, for treatment of leiomyosarcoma—a cancer Sharon had been battling for 20+ years. That’s 20 years of motherhood, birthdays, holidays and life laced with treatments, surgeries, fears and questions. While the journey was often challenging, Sharon always found the bright side, proclaiming, “Life is about choices, and I choose to turn this negative into a positive.” It was that day that doctors stressed the importance of research as they searched for a cure. Inspired by her mother’s positivity, Tina made the choice to find joy while working to fund cancer research that could impact countless families facing the same battle. With her heart of gold, Tina forged ahead and launched what would ultimately become Polo in the Pines, an exciting polo-filled weekend that would fund leiomyosarcoma research in honor of her mother.
